Assumed a new position with Larry Schmittou & Rick Scott’s new venture into the bowling industry. I was responsible for purchasing and acquisitions of centers, training newly acquired center staff and updating – remodeling as needed in all centers. During my tenure we purchased 6 centers and did a complete remodel in Louisville. I also was responsible for appraising possible purchase centers, and new locations for opportunities to build. Position was based out of Nashville, however I traveled daily to the various centers as needed.

Manager / Training Manager AMF Bowling Worldwide Richmond, Va.
I was the 5th manager in 4 years of a 40-lane center in Louisville Ky. I assumed control of center with fewer than 850 league bowlers and a very poor staff. By 2000-2001 center had over 1400 league members, an impeccable staff and had experienced over $230,000 in annual revenue increase. I was used by Rich Weber Jr. as the St. Louis District training manager, training 9 of the 15 managers in the district.

Strikes & Spares Radio Show Host WTMT Radio Louisville, Ky.
Hosted a call in bowling radio show for just over 2 years. Show came about as a result of an advertising campaign I ran for NASCAR bowling leagues. I was responsible for content and solicitation of sponsors, along with weekly hosting with Paul Wilman station’s sportscaster.

Manager Thelmal Lanes Inc., Executive Bowl Louisville, Ky.
I was one of several managers for Sonny Frantz’s highly successful 52-lane center in Louisville. Responsibilities included customer service training for all staff, outside sales, promotions, tournament and league operations. We hosted the largest annual tournament in the area, along with several PBA / LBPA stops. During this time the center hosted over 4800 league bowlers weekly along with numerous special events.

Regional Troubleshooter AMF Bowling Worldwide Richmond, Va.
I was hired to work directly for regional manager Doug St. Clair as the “troubleshooter” for his centers. I was sent to centers, as Regional manger deemed necessary to identify and fix problems. Normal duties included identifying problems, training staff and the hiring and training of new center managers. I also directed all regional promotions and tournaments for Doug St. Clair.

Owner J-Town Bowling Lanes Louisville, Ky.
Purchased 24-lane center from Brunswick Corporation located in shopping center complex. Operated center for ten years during which shopping center was sold to New Plan Realty. 1992 performed extensive remodel on deal the New Plan would remodel entire shopping center. October – April 1993-1994 roof failed causing severe damage. Closed center in lawsuit with landlord, eventually won settlement in 1997.

Owner Watkins & McCarthy Advertising Louisville, Ky.
Sold score sheet and in center advertising for 18 bowling centers in Louisville and southern Indiana. Was involved in cold call sales, directed sales force of 2-3 individuals and ordered printed products. Also sold golf scorecards for all 9 Louisville Metro Parks courses. Closed business as automatic scoring became prevalent and diluted profitability of business.

Was line mechanic on all GM models in dealers service center. Performed general maintenance and warranty work.

Worked as a parts counter person for local store of Midwest parts company. Duties included stocking, inventory and ordering parts along with customer service and sales. Also served as tester on electrical parts (alternators, starters etc.)

Worked as primary mechanic for family owned 10 lane AMF equipped bowling center. Eventually was responsible for all facets of maintenance including lane, pinsetter and building. In 1982 became co-managers with two brothers overseeing other facets of the center including outside sales and tournament management. In 1984 I purchased a center from Brunswick.
